This program, in its 9th session, is modeled on similar national trial advocacy programs and presents a unique opportunity for lawyers in Maine to develop and improve their trial skills by taking part in an intensive and supervised clinical courtroom experience.

Participants will present a civil case and will handle the case through the entire trial process, including openings, direct examinations, cross examinations, introduction of evidence, use of demonstrative exhibits and closing arguments. This year's program will focus on practical trial skills and will also include advocacy outside the courthouse, such as alternative dispute resolution, boards, and agencies. This updated program was crafted based upon judicial input in an effort to reflect the modern practice of law.

Participants will prepare a civil case and will handle the case through the entire trial process, including openings, direct examinations, cross examinations, introduction of evidence, use of demonstrative exhibits and closing arguments.

Participating attorneys will be divided into two sections and smaller working groups within each section. Judges and attorney faculty will work with each section. Faculty members are selected from among Maine's leading trial attorneys. Throughout the program, faculty, judges, and other participants will provide focused individual and group feedback. Students will be video recorded and there will be individual review and evaluation. Faculty members will instruct on various aspects of advocacy including presentation of evidence and concise, effective argument.

This course will require substantial advance preparation. You will experience the same pressures (and rewards!) as the actual practice of law in a controlled setting with feedback that is rarely, if ever, available from both "the other side" and the bench.

Schedule
We are finalizing the schedule but the program will offer approximately 14 hours of general CLE credit, including one hour of ethics (professional responsibility) credit.
